Signs and Symptoms

Wilm’s Tumor is often thought to be asymptomatic, as many of the symptoms that accompany the disease are general, and easily mistaken for (and more often than not actually a result of) other conditions. Some of the signs and symptoms of Wilm’s Tumor include:

·      Abdominal pain

·      Constipation

·      A palpable abdominal mass

·      Abdominal swelling

·      Fever

·      High blood pressure (hypertension)

·      Bloody urine

·      Fatigue

·      Urinary tract infections

Not all children experience symptoms. Of those who do, some symptoms are more common than others. At the time of diagnosis, most children present to their pediatrician with a palpable abdominal mass. The chart below shows the percentage of children who experience each of the common symptoms of Wilm’s Tumor.

Although diagnosis of Wilm’s Tumor is devastating, the amount of hope, joy, and pure resilience of children is remarkable.
